The Swelling Year started as a writing project that was begun in 2012 and finished in early May 2013. Armed with an Anglican Prayer Book, Wikipedia and a handful of other resources, I wrote my way through the Anglican Liturgical Calendar, a year of days set aside to remember key seasons of the Christian life and the lives of men and women of the Bible and of the first 2000 years of the church. I liked it so much that I kept going, and for the seven years since I have regularly written my way through the seasons of the church year.
In 2019, I put together the best of these seven years of poems, added a few new ones, and released it as a book – a one-year cycle through a year swelling with God’s grace.
